New year, new beginnings!

2012 will be an awesome one because I'll be spending Half of it in Europe!!!!! :)

2011 was like a roller coaster ride, cliche but super apt.
The beginning was sweet but that didnt last long....... Initially i kinda missed it but after a while i kinda got used to it... somewhere in the middle it kinda sucked like crap,
Felt like some kinda bottomless pit but life after exams have been really awesome!!!!!! :)
Because im embarking on my sep journey!!! :) it has been really awesome for the past week or so....
I just went for a countdown at Helsinki senate square with new friends!
They had random new year's resolution written on sign boards and people could take pictures w them.
To inject some fun, we devised a game which required us to randomly choose sign boards in languages that we don't comprehend and make that our new year's resolution hahahaha
The rule was to only google translate it when we get back and we have to fulfill it.

And guess what mine was about?

weird sleeping patterns

recently i've been having a really weird sleep cycle, largely characterized by the amount of work load in the sec half of the semester.
basically, i nap at weird times like 10pm and wake up at 1am, do work until prolly 3am then sleep again before i wake up at 7am.

due to these weird sleeping hours, i find myself perpetually tired during lectures.
because i'm always tired, i nap when i reach home. (repeat cycle 134324353x)
i think ive been eating alot lately too, to sustain the lack of sleep, eating keeps me awake during lectures.
furthermore, due to the lack of sleep, i find myself unable to sustain my running routine because i simply cant wake up in the morn.
that leads me back to the eating alot.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
vicious cycle. i need to find a way out.

interestingly, after its release, the attention it gained was probably just as great or likely to be even bigger, in the not so positive light though.

01 there's a 15MB limit (=75k of smses, not accounting for MMSes which would probably reduce the number) imposed on the sms inbox???

i never knew my inbox could ever be full so i never deleted any msges the whole time i had my phone since mar'10
that's roughly about...... 57k of smses?
took me damn long to rectify the problem because i initially thought it was some bug of apple's until they released an update on their support page depicting the new limit :/
upon deleting all the random people's threads i was still unable to receive messages.
that led me to deleting MMSes which also didnt work.
UNTIL, i deleted wj's entire thread. LOL
should have just deleted from people whom i msg often.

going through the old messages actually made me think about how much i seem to have changed.
it seems that i used to be happier and more carefree?
perhaps more socialable and caring too?
reality seems to have eroded this and left me feeling pretty much jaded and indifferent to most things.

i need to start feeling again.
now i really feel like a vampire (refer vampire diaries), to be able to turn off my feelings like a switch
but then again, perhaps my heart really is hardened

02 some of my apps got lost/unsynced
apparently, jf experienced this problem too but his was more severe cos he lost all??

03 some of my songs and photos weren't synced properly as well.
took me so long to sync back all my photos!
i swear i clicked the sync icon in itunes for at least 20times

04 the ever depleting battery life!
as if my phone's battery life isnt bad enough already, it's now draining even as i speak (when it's on standby)
the average battery life is probably close to half of what it used to be?

oh and i have friends who actually had it worse, their phones crashed and contacts were lost! :/

on the contrary, to cut apple some slack, new programs aren't likely to be effortlessly without bugs.
it always has to go through some phase of trial before the bugs surface and can be exterminated for good.

as a loyal apple follower, (i always say apple is like a religion because it converts people and makes you follow it to no end), there are things that im impressed with as well, like the cool new notifications panel ;)

i swear the past 2.5 weeks had been crazy.

i literately didnt sleep, i only took naps.

it's finally time for some rest.....and some exercise, no, make that alot.
not to mention, there's nike human race this sunday and the sleepless nights and rainy days arent making it any easier to train.

I really believe so, for good things are always worth waiting for, more haste often leads to less speed.

THINGS TO BE COMPLETED:
3101 assignment within the next hour (Status: 75% done)
3401 lab report within the next 30 hours (Status: 0% done)
3401 mini project, diagrams and key considerations within the next 30 hours (Status: 50% done)
Study for microbiology midterms within the next 22 hours (Status: 0% done)

AND
minus the time spent travelling to school and being in school for lectures (about 7hrs today + 7hrs tmr = 14 hrs)

even without sleeping, eating, bathing, running and facebooking im only left with:
16 hours for lab report
15 hours for microbiology midterms
16 hours for mini proj

THEREFORE, taking into account the offroute factor of 0.5 (given my mental state seeing as i've only been sleeping for less than 5hrs for the past 2 nights),
i'll only be left with a freaking zomg of less than 8hours???

AND that's if they are all done concurrently.

even "OMG" is an understatement.

i still derive lots of joy from it although i very much cant rmb the steps most of the time (need to work on that).
Even the aching muscles gives me a sense of satisfaction because it's a good indicator of the fact that i'm slowly becoming fitter over the weeks ;)

if not for SEP, i'll prolly continue to take dance lessons man! :D

last night, or rather last last night (since it's past midnight alr), i had my first time.
i was scared, because it's something that i have never experienced before and it was so uncertain and foreign, yet excited at the same time because it was something that i have always wanted to do.
it was late and i was late too.
hence, i took a cab down......

it was seriously an eyeopener man!
it's the first time i see people openly show their affections without having the public frown upon them because people who congregate there are just like them or are open to having them around.
i have nothing against gays and in fact i believe they should be treated like any one of us heterosexuals because they are humans too.
people shouldnt be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation especially when it's not like they chose to be homosexual.

ahaha and the best part is, nobody bothered w us girls hahahah
seriously, they just treated us as if we werent there.
usually in a club, if you are just one bunch of girls, the guys will come.....
but that night, we had all the space in the world to dance til the world ends ;)
the music was good too :D

oh and something epic happened with our dear friend bryan wee but i dont feel like repeating the story again and again.

the title pretty much sums up my life for the past few days!
it all started because my family went to vietnam for holiday and left me home alone.

awwwwwww sounds pretty sad huh!!

maybe if it was like US or smth, i'll be damn freaking sad.
But it's cambodia! not exactly keen on going la...

PLUS!!

it's so peaceful at home!

ANDDDDDDDD!!

i got to use the car!! ;)
driving to school is damn shiok!
(no, not the one in the pic, though i pretty much wish it is)
but still, driving to school is awesome!!!
simply because:
1) i can wake up later, leave house later and still reach earlier
2) it's so convenient!
3) I dont have to squeeze on the bus with everybody else!
4) travelling time is cut short by 60%
5) i get to sing to my fav tunes in the car ;)
6) simply because driving is fun :D

awesomenesssss :D

BUT,
owning a car is crazily expensive in singapore man!
exorbitant petrol prices, ERP, Road tax, COE, Parking!

must make sure i earn enough money to own a car in future man! $$$$$$

there were pretty much a lot of virgin experiences for the past few days! it was the first time I:
1) drove alone
2) have passengers other than my family members and driving instructor, YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN REALLY BRAVE ;) HAHAHAH kidding.
3) pump petrol (the pump attendant was like laughing at me because i didnt know which lever to press to release the petrol latch...)
4) parallel park
5) went on detours because i missed turns (but hey! i still made it back home safely and within 30min, my directional sense isnt THAT bad)
6) drove on the expressway during peak hours
7) top up a cashcard (the 7/11 cashier had to direct me to the atm to top up the card)

it was a fruitful experience nonetheless ;)
totally spiced up my week!
oh daddy, please go overseas more often hahahahahah

oh wells, back to my chauffeur-ed by Mercedes days! :(

PPTV is like one of the best iphone apps that i've encountered (next to vlc player, bus apps (though i would very much want one with SMRT bus timings), google maps)

what's PPTV?

it's a movie/shows streaming program that allows you to watch dramas or movies that you love anytime, anywhere ;)
(anywhere that has fast 3G connection or even better, WIFI)

yeah, i know the burning question in your head:
"isn't 3G streaming uber slow?? and wouldnt that interrupt ur show and annoy you when you cant watch the scenes run continuously? like maybe you'll see this character kick the same ball for 1s and then have to wait 5min for him to kick the same ball for another 1s?"

ahahah fear not!
after the recent upgrade, one is able to create an account, stream and save shows before hand! meaning you'll be able to watch it uninterrupted at any time you want as long as you have already streamed it!
usually i will just use my house's wifi to stream and leave it overnight....
TADA, some entertainment for your boring bus ride the next day ;)

anyway, i finished HIMYM's season6 thanks to PPTV ;)
previously, i was too lazy to download the episodes myself so i stopped watching.

it has been a really meaningful 100days!
not exactly what i expected when it kicked off but im glad i survived, for what doesnt kill you actually makes you stronger.
never have i truly understood that until today.

simin is right, maybe my life has always been so smooth sailing that i cant seem to take failures :S
everything that hits me now hits me real hard, way harder than it hits anyone else facing the same prob?
perhaps sometimes i aim for perfection so much that i expect too much from myself.

relative to the summer following freshmen year, the one after sophomore's wasnt as exciting in the sense that it wasnt all about fun and play.
it was more of like self discovery, felt like i suddenly grew wiser (YES im wise ok hahahah laugh all you want)
it also became really apparent to me that i have to overcome some of my flaws because it simply isnt going to be functional in reality, especially in future.

people around me seemed to have grown up too.
people change, people move on......
seems like im the only one standing still.
or maybe not.......
i guess i changed too.

anyway, it wasnt all gloomy, i had some fun too :D

like on my 21st bday week!
thank god for such wonderful friends i've made over the years :D

i mean, despite not throwing a party, those people still remembered :)

the school feels very foreign too, not just because of the influx of foreigners, but perhaps its because i havent really been involved in the orientation scene this summer.
even techno had some revamping, the western stall scrapped hot plate off its menu :( and there's even a new korean stall to replace the unpopular jap food stall.

just came back from a week of rovers camp!
a great break from work man! :)

sitting at the bus interchange yesterday while waiting for a friend who was late (yeah for once im the one who's early), gave me sudden inspirations.

hasnt it ever occurred to you that we are like bus interchanges?
the buses are people that enter your lives, bringing along something (passengers)
and they (the buses) stay for a part of your lives (be it an hour, a few days etc)
before you know it, it's time for them to move on and they too take away something from you (passengers again)

people come and go.
at the end of the day, whats left is really nothing much but an empty bus interchange tainted by footsteps of others, bus tracks and oil stains.

i swear time really flies during hols!
a part of me wishes that it'll end quicker for i can finally stop being a cheap labourer but then again, another part of me doesnt want sch to start :(
oh, but i must say, the inertia isn't as high as before.
maybe because this summer isnt as exciting as the last.

this summer has been more like a road to self discovery and self improvement for me.
recent happenings have made me realise how much i need to brush up on certain qualities (or rather the lack there of) of myself.

it has also been a time to meet old friends, people whom i havent met/spoken to in a loooooong time!
some by chance, some just suddenly decided to meet up.
either ways, it feels good to know that these people havent forgotten about you :)
it's also amazing how much we can still clique despite the hug gap in time since we last met.
i guess some friends will always be friends you can talk endlessly to regardless of the amount of time spent apart, whereas it's so difficult to have constructive conversations with people whom you see on a daily basis.

anyway, i got my open diver certification ;)
diving is so awesomely fun!!
being able to get so close to marine life has always been a fantasy but it has since come true ;)
it's indescribably one of the best feelings in the world!
especially for someone like me who loves being in the water!
to put it simply, take what you see on documentaries and intensify by 100x and you will know what i mean.
colourful fishes of all shapes and sizes, shy ones, aggressive ones.......
even the sea urchins and sea cucumbers are worth seeing!
oh and i found nemo ;)

i think i'll probably take the advanced open water course by the end of this year! :)

it's the holidays but i feel busier than ever. A typical week would consist of me going to work + tuition 4 times a week + random meet ups with random friends!
I begin to wonder how time flies by so quickly that it's already JUNE??
Packed like sardines, that's how my schedule seems to be like these days!
i swear i would give anything just to laze around doing nothing at home! (play bruno mars's lazy song)
i dont even have time to upload photos..... ok im just too lazy hahah
amongst the mundane life of mine, i need to slot in some me-time man!

humans are ironic creatures, mundaneness bore them, yet at the same time they are not very receptive to change (generally).
This is with the exception of people with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) -- they enjoy being orderly and repetitive.
As a kid, my mom would religiously criticise that my interests often do not last pass 3min (三分钟热度), especially whenever i request to learn something new.
In retrospect, I think shes kinda right.
Radically, I'm always on the look out for something exciting, something new to do, to spice up my life.
It's always a new experience that I'm looking out for, maybe because I havent really found something I really like and want to do for long term sake.
(but i do know what i dont want to spend my life doing)

i used to detest changes because they make things very uncertain. Over time, i learnt that it's only a natural course of life and really, nothing really lasts forever. Embrace changes because being mundane is simply boring.
However, I guess deep down, like every other girl, one day I just wanna settle down, have something constant in my life to rely on? Despite how much i always say being single is great and all but humans are social creatures, we long for company and wouldnt be able to survive just being alone. (but right now, i'll just enjoy the benefits of being single ;)
Working for the past week really made me realise this because I wouldnt want to just be a workaholic all my life.
It would be really sad.
but then again, there're always trade offs which is probably the reason why top management positions are mostly held by men and why powerful women are mostly single.
it's always about striking a balance in life, but then again, who is to judge what "balance" really means, for reality is never ideal.

yet ironically, i secretly fear being dependent on anything because nothing lasts forever and losing something that you hold on dearly would hurt hell too much for me to take, or rather, i wouldnt know whether i'll be strong enough to take it.
it's abit like the idea of putting all your eggs in one basket?
i may be brave in alot of ways, for instance im not scared of heights, insects, animals etc
but theres one thing i fear the most, that is failing.

i've been thinking alot, i have so much to do, so much to achieve, else i'll grow old and look back in regret.
I think i've found back the kind of motivation i used to have, before i got too caught up with reality (being a bitch), before I stopped daring to chase my dreams, before i stopped believing so much in myself.

i need to start believing in myself again.
there's a reason why we all need goals, be it short term or long term, they keep us alive.
i must learn to be daring to fail especially when i know i actually learn the most out of experiences.

hahaha pretty amusing show actually. it kinda reminds me of last year's rovers camp because the theme was along the lines of Odin and asguard.... and i actually gained a better understanding.

there was this brief mentioning of hubble's telescope, which is used to measure the distance from the distant galaxy to us and relate it to the speed that it is moving away from us.
the storyline is the typical superhero-saves-the-day kinda thing la, but the graphics are not bad ;)

GE has been really interesting and distracting over the entire course of my exams, i would say it provided a huge source of entertainment for me.
especially those freaking hilarious speeches from certain opposition party candidates ;)
(think SDP, DR Ang...........)

One of the reasons why this GE has become so interesting was attributed to the power of social media, especially (but not limited to) amongst the youths.
Although some of us are not of legal age to vote, im pretty happy that we youths arent politically apathetic as people deemed us to be.

like in every issue, there will always be the people on the extremes, the Pro-PAP, the Pro-opposition.....
but i would say im neither, perhaps just abit more tweaked to the pap side, not because i think they are awesomely good but simply because they indeed have most of the talents, and i would say that the opposition parties' policies are simple too idealistic to work.
like for instance decreasing GST, decreasing NS terms or even making it voluntary, and increasing expenditures...... where is all the money going to come from? income tax?

the thing about humans are that we will never be contented with what we have and would always wish for more, maybe that's the problem with singaporeans.
if you arent happen with your current situation then jolly well do smth about it la, like upgrade urself, get a better job.......why lament and sit there feeling sorry for yourself and expect people to help you?
(im sorry i sound apathetic but i always believe that we all have the power to change our own lives)
however, there really are people who are really mad poor and need help, and yes i have seen some of them when i went to some MPS sessions 2 years back. (to help in writing letters for those with issues, to side track abit, the sessions are really insightful, one would never have known how many people have actually fallen through the cracks and some stories are really heartening. i rmb this old lady that was abandoned and pushed around by her sons and daughters and even at her age she has to around collecting tin cans just to survive.)
unfortunately, i think there are this bulk of undeserving people too, thinking that people are obliged to help them, as if the country owes them a living. it's those that are undeserving that becomes the black sheep and drag those that arent together with them, such that welfare for the entire group of people cannot be increased. The problem surely lies with how to differentiate them huh? I guess it is like an almost impossible task because every policy has its loop holes and people would definitely find their way around anyway.
similarly, there is no way one can please everyone, there will always be people who have fallen through the cracks. It's sad to say this but its the truth.

on the other hand, yes i do agree that being in power for too long breeds complacency and incompetence, hence there is a need for an alternative voice in the parliament. Also, the condescending attitude that PAP has have to change, for it will no longer work with the new generation of educated people who will not be pleased to just put up with threats.

on public housing prices, the increase is scary because the wages arent increasing as fast.... Government intervention is needed i would say before it gets on to become some wage cost spiral.

perhaps, they will still win most (if not all but 1 or 2) of seats, the point of the opposition and the grievances of most of the singaporeans would still have been heard and hopefully those sincere and competent MPs will do something about it. (not saying that all are)
life is never fair, not all the good ones will go in and definitely there will be incompetent and undeserving ones too.
however, like what we learn in econs, with competition comes improvement.

sometimes it's a friend, sometimes it's an enemy.
a lot of happenings in life can be attributed to time
like knowing the right things/people at the right time for things to work, be it in school/work/love/or just life per se.

forever is a long long time.
i dont know since when have i stopped believing in "forever", or maybe i never did believe in it in the first place.
live for the moment?
and never look back in regret.
but i guess i will regret not doing smth more than doing smth, because the element of "what if" is a really powerful and daunting thing that will haunt you for a longer time. one would always wonder what the outcome would be because he can never know.

however, one will always have regrets regardless, for he can never have everything and whenever there's a choice, there will always be a potential regret. this is life.
many a times it is not as easy as choosing a right from wrong, a good from bad, it's usually just the better of two evils?

that is when you will need the most important role of time:
time always heals all wounds..............
but scars remain.
feelings fade, all that's left are memories which will probably become fragments in time.

but maybe it was better this way, for releasing everything has made me safely say that im really alright already.
it's time to clear stuffs off my desk and keep them safely locked up elsewhere.

i think i have grown so much over the past few months, or maybe it has been the whole uni experience, or maybe i only just came to realise i did.

anyhows, enough of gloominess!

Working my heart to beat so fast (partially attributed to the caffeine)
Morbidly, I think I secretly enjoy the adrenaline high accompanying these mad rushes for it results in high productivity, greatly attributed to the lack of time (remaining)
Despite how much time I'm given, I'll always not be productive until nearing the end.
I guess I'm an advocate of using the least resources for the greatest production.

yes im 2/3 through the hardest time of the sem!!
(actually this sem hasnt been kind at all ever since recess week)
it has been a looooooooong week, im not gna lament on how the papers went because there is no point.
PRESS ON. MOVE FORWARD.

anyway, im pretty impressed by ICA ;)
passport renewal is soooooooooo convenient now!
This is especially true for the (lazy) western (part of singapore) dweller as there is NO NEED TO EVEN TRAVEL TO LAVANDER AT ALL!
The steps are so simple:
1) fill up the form (that ICA has already sent to remind you of your expiring passport)
2) stick a photo
either 3a) snail mail it to ICA.
or 3b) go to your nearest singpost and get them to do it for you
4) wait for the pink confirmation slip to be mailed to you
5) go online and choose a singpost outlet to collect your passport from, as well as make an appointment
6) bring your old passport + pink slip + IC and head down to the singpost outlet you have chosen and collect your new passport! (of cos at a nominal fee of $8 or $10, depending if you chose the two-way service or the collection one only)
oh and it's actually cheaper to do it this way, $70 +$8, compared to heading down to ICA and waste time queuing + pay $80.

oh, there's another reason why im so impressed by them because they somehow shrank the photo i submitted disproportionately and made me look slimmer and more chio HAHAHAH
for once i can say that im happy with a pass/card (usually they just look like crap, like my driver's license! i freaking regretted not bringing a nice photo and had to resort to taking an instant one which made me look like some sleepy head and zomg its for life!!)

when im free and if i feel like it, i might post it here ;)

Dark matter as in the cosmology shit that I still have no idea of and the fact that it is really escalating to become a dark issue given that my exam is in 10hrs 30min time? :S

as much as i love the movie.
i was quite surprised that taio cruz sang this because it's nothing like his other songs, "dynamite", "break your heart", "dirty picture"
this is of a more soothing and lovey dovey genre.
i like the way he incorporated the tribal feel so as to fit the movie.

anyway, RIO is mad funny!
contrary to its genre of being an animated flim and all, its totally worth watching!
the cast is spectacularly awesome, anne hathaway, jamie fox, will.i.am......
i like the way they added human touch to the characters, really brought the characters to life and gave them a generous dose of humour!
in fact, i could kinda tell who will.i.am was voicing as, for he kinda impinged his personality on the character.
of course, if you're gonna be watching for storyline then it wouldnt be much of a surprise, afterall it's an animated flim made for happily-ever-afters.
however, the humour, cute/funny characters and pretty awesome graphics totally made up for it :)

It all began when illegal smuggling of wild exotic birds from rio to other parts of the world became apparent. A domesticated blue macaw, blu, got flown to another part of the world, minnesota, when he was just an infant. Fortunately, he got taken in by a bookworm, linda, who showered him with so much love for 15 years that he became a domesticated flightless bird. One day, a bird specialist (i forgot what they are called) spotted him and wanted to mate him with the ONLY other blue macaw, jewel the feisty independent female, left on earth. That brought him back to rio and kick started a crazy adventure ;)

I guess the point of the story is to be brave enough to step out of your comfort zone and have an experience of a life time that could possibly be really rewarding ;)

on a side note, i think the movie can pass off as a good tourism advertisement for RIO DE JANEIRO, because throughout the movie, they kept showing people doing rock climbing, skimpily dressed locals dancing at their salsa festival, thrill-seekers flying off the cliff with this kite-looking-thing-on-their-backs (ok i have no idea what it's called), and also their famous landmarks.

i would love to visit brazil one day!
shall place this on one of the places i must visit!

i got my internship!
was pretty happy for a while because it's quite a big company handling a really huge project....but the thought of having to spend my entire precious holidays working kinda turns me off :S

and i dont even know if i'll enjoy engineering work

on a side note, to be honest, talking to the interviewer really made me think about my life, my career life to be exact.
he was telling me about another intern he's having now, she's this NTU girl who is also studying environmental engineering and she is totally enjoying her work and all, interacting with PUB etc.
it really struck me hard because i know deep down..... i dont have that kinda passion :S
i cannot lie to myself.
yeah, and you ask why did i even choose ese in the first place huh?

oh and to apply what i've learnt in mkt, i realise a uni degree is kinda like an intangible good, you can't exactly know what it's like until you actually enrol and study.

as a kid almost everyone once wanted to be a teacher or a doctor or a lawyer or a policeman......
i've been there, done that and over the years, i came to this conclusion that...................

if i could choose any job in the entire world, just to do anything that i really want to do.....
I would want to be a TRAVEL WRITER!
it's a pretty darn awesome job because:
1) you get to travel to anywhere in the world (possible for free, ok it depends actually, most people are free lance, technically you pay for your own trips)
2) even to places people may not go to (like ulu areas in africa, india, china, europe...) which are possibly more worth exploring given their unique characteristics/culture/simplicity/lack of commercialisation
3) working hours are flexible
4) it's hardly even work since it's mostly PLAY
5) throw in the ability to have a photography hobby

doesn't that sound like the best job in the world?

yeah, only if you are already:
1) so freaking rich that you don't need to earn a living
or 2) so famous that people actually pay you to travel and write them articles.

oh wells, like i said, it's a DREAM job.

at my last mkt tutorial today, (ok ystd since its past 12am), my tutor said something regarding doing what you like and not just something that is so called "good for you"?

"why torture yourself? you should have fun studying in uni, do what you like! you will probably get better grades too and that better grades would be more meaningful than having a degree that you think is "better"?"

upon hearing that, rach and I enchanged glances and asked/mouthed to each other the same question, "why torture yourself?"

glad to know im not the only one who thinks engineering is a torture.

after which, at the bustop, i was like "ya, why torture yourself? we are totally going to torture ourselves now!" (cos we were going to sci for our phy lect)

but still, i think, i would have chosen engineering (given that i can't get dentistry/medicine), if given the choice again, simply for its functionality and the many doors it opens itself to.
but i dont knw if it would still be ese again :S

zomg.
i just realised its 2 weeks to my first paper???
i swear time is a secret sneaky lil creature that creeps by silently and rapidly without me knowing!

and i have like more than half the sem of stuff to catch up on!
upon filing all my notes, i got damn scared at the sight of how THICK my physics notes are :S
I have no idea, there's actually sooooooooooo much!!
not to mention i havent been doing tutorials since forever and i have like no idea what's going on during the lectures :S

I've always wanted to visit the toy museum! but it turned out to be rather small actually!

Beef ribs stew thingy! its damn awesome! the beef is so soft and tender that you can just scrap it off without exerting any strength! It is also super rich in flavour, goes very well with the sauce too! yumyumyum! a lil pricey but it's a must try ;)

seafood risotto - creamy and soft, pretty good too!

(16/03) timbre @ substation
my marketing group went to interview Mr Danny Loong, one of the bosses for timbre, for our marketing project.

it was my first time at the substation despite the fact that it's actually the first timbre branch.
Danny is a really passionate guy, full of ideas, especially of music.
i guess musicians are all of certain characteristics, full of their own unique way of thinking.
it was an Inspiring and intriguing experience at the same time.

whooohoooo you have no idea how glad i was on the mon that just passed, when we submitted the report and presented our slides!
the project is over! :)

I finally got to meet up with nena, mc and wk! we've always been talking about it for the longest time (since our last XLB feast in dec?) and have never been able to find a common time?

The mango pomelo sago tasted authentic and the durian puree ice cream is delicious!
however, their signature durian pancake puff was disappointing. Pricey for its small portion, it didnt taste as fantastic as they promoted it to be and it would have been better if they used ice cream instead of whipped cream.

This small dosage of durian kinda sparked off our craving (or rather wk's) for durian!!
Really feel like eating now.... havent had it in ages! hahahah

but wk bo jio, he eventually went to eat durian on his own :(

so i went to pick it up frantically!

on a side note, i finally understood why the individual assignment for mkt has the same weightage as the group report. it is just as brain draining. (if not more) and pretty much longer than any of our individual parts in the group report.

i gave up trying to sleep. i cant.
havent felt like that in a while. a long while.
the words just kept resounding in my head like a broken record.
i went to bed at 1+am, tossed around until 2+ before i fell asleep, woke up at 3+ tossed around until 4+ then slept again, woke up at 6+ and i couldnt sleep so here i am..............
i'm damn tired but i cant sleep.
i'm hungry but i dont feel like eating.

my heart feels as if it just sank until the centre of the earth, so heavy that i don't know how to pick it back up.
i feel like crying but the tears wont flow.
this stifling, strangling feeling is really getting to me.

in the past, whenever one mentions the word "apple", people would naturally associate it to the red or green coloured juicy and crunchy fruit that is no doubt good for health.
I too, love to eat apples, the simple sweetness and a slight tinge of sourness just seem to make fireworks with my taste buds.
Being one of my favourite fruits, it's good to eat on its own, with yogurt, in some soup that my mom cooks, or blended into juice.

however, ever since the rise of steve jobs together with his own version of Apple, the first thing that comes to one's mind at the subtle mention of the word, is no longer the red/green fruit, but the silver one which looks like it has a part of it chewed off.
yes, im talking about apple and its array of electronics, ranging from the macbook, to the ipad, to ipod to iphone.....

despite ever thinking that i'll never be part of this craziness thats taking over the world, and that people who are absolutely obsessed with all the apple gadgets are just as crazy, i too have succumbed to temptation about a year ago.
i became the owner of the most amazing phone - the iphone.
if you ever notice, on the public bus, probably 8/10 people would be either typing smses on their iphones or simply just playing games.
the iphone has made travelling become so much more enjoyable :)

the only problem i have with it is the SHORT (by short i really mean VERY VERY SHORT) battery lifespan. (for instance, 1hour of tuning in to the radio would have drained 50% of my battery life)
in fact, it has never given me any other problems until i carelessly drenched my iphone in the heavy rain while i was trekking last december, that resulted in me having to get a refurbished phone.

That was when i truly felt the elitism the iphone has brought with it.
it was such a hassle to get it fixed because there simply isnt a repair service and one had to go through so much just to do it.
there was only the exchange service which is pretty much a hassle, no doubt, partially attributed to the elitism.

Furthermore, contacts, as well as other data like photos, music etc, saved in the phone can only be transferred to another iphone.
talking about exclusiveness and elitism?
i often joke that its becoming my religion (HAHA), for it's hard to convert to using something else after the iphone.

alright, having said so much, i think i might still get the iphone5 LOL
yes im a hypocrite.
no la, its just that i still think at the current market, the iphone is still the best around? (with its sleek design, superbly huge internal memory, awesome apps and huge screen)
no doubt, theres good andriod phones are increasingly on the rise!

anyway, as i was saying, 3mths into using the refurbished phone, it started to hang and the vibrations are now lagging the message tone!
time to get down to town and exchange for one again!
the catch is, this will prolly be my last, since my warranty is expiring in 2 weeks time?
a part of me is afraid i'll be assigned a lousier one :S
but another part of me is scared that the current one will degrade further and by then i wont be able to do an exchange for free?
AND, school workload is getting crazy, leaving me with no time to go do it :S

I had that kinda jittery feeling you get when you are only kept awake by the adrenaline rush pumping through your veins. (and the caffine)
it's almost like your physical body is on the verge of going on strike against your brain.
by late afternoon ystd i felt like i could have just laid down anywhere and immediately fell asleep.

i still feel v tired now despite sleeping normally last night.
but then again, normal is hardly normal, for normal means 6hrs to me, whereas normal means 8hrs to an average person.

time.is.never.enough.
never.

perhaps i shld apply my Einstein physics knowledge and attempt to travel close to/if not faster than the speed of light such that time dilation will occur and i'll possibly have "more time".
but then again, if i can do that, i'll be a nobel laureate and a rich ass, for nobody (including Einstein) has ever been able to travel faster than the speed of light.
As such, i can safely quit sch and chill with all my $$$$$$.
however by then i would have all the time in the world and therefore wouldnt need more time.

expectations

2 years ago, i once did a personality test/survey when i went for some job interview during the period before uni started.
the interviewer said that im someone who has high expectations of myself and of others too, it got me thinking that day and i realised its true.

however, that wasn't exactly the turning point.
The fact is, over the years, i have learnt to have lower expectations, if not none, of others (and things) to avoid disappointment.
the higher you raise your hopes, the greater it comes crashing down on you when things go wrong.
furthermore, one would be happier when good things strike you unexpectedly too.
(perhaps this explains why people can be happy-go-lucky simply because they don't live with expectations of themselves (and others))
as a result, i tend to choose the safer path, and don't hold high hopes for things that are uncertain by nature. (especially academically)
such a coward, i know.

on the contrary, in recent years i realised how much of a hindrance this would be to achieving great things, for one must first dare to fail to succeed eventually.
unfortunately, i think i lost the courage to fail, given how little the leeway for failure is in today's society.
to count my blessings, i think i've been pretty lucky all my life but this luck is probably running out already.

i hate to disappoint, especially myself.
i cannot stand failing.
i cannot stand not being good enough.

my predictions have come true, after getting a tumblr, i blog lesser (in terms of quantity and quality)

but i will never forsake my blog, for it has been so much part of my life for the past 7.5years?

over the years, CNY seemed to have lost its effect on me, it's nth more than a holiday, a season to gorge yourself with yummy food and collect ang paos and mahjong. Anyway, im glad this year NUS didnt eat up our CNY by merging it with recess week.

my cousin, ulrica, who eats like 2 bowls of porridge, 1 bowl of rice and 1 bowl of curry, for lunch :O

cousins. minus a few. reckoned that my grandma has 14 grandchildren. and yes, im the third eldest.

relatives from maternal extended family have this crazy tradition of grilling you before they give you your ang pao! one would have to come up w countless greetings (in chinese, of course) and please the person giving out the ang pao before he/she decides whether to give you. in the recent years, it has been quite a challenge for me after having lost touch with chinese for a while.

nong hiang! my grandma used to make really yummy ones but ever since her stroke, she dont make them anymore :( my eldest aunt has since undertaken the job, not an easy task man!

over the years, the amount of relatives to visit and ang paos to collect have shrunk, now i practically spend my entire CNY at my maternal grandmother's house. She's the only grandparent i have left actually. It's kinda disheartening to see her getting weaker over the years........
oh but she said something really zomg to me this year, guess what is it?

something along the lines of, "hurry get married! when i was your age i was already a mom" (in hokkien, of course)

HAHAHA ZOMG CAN.

but i realised i was the eldest grandchild present at that moment, my marriageable aged cousins were not there then so i prolly was the only one to be arrowed!

i've never eaten so many balls and cheese tofu at one shot!
even the thought of it now makes me feel :S
i'll prolly not touch them for a while.
oh and zomg, kp actually finished 1.5 plates of shabu shabu all by himself!! while the 5 of us ate 1.5 together. HAHA

have to thank BFF xue for his hospitality! :D
and we brought him luck man! his house number was 2nd prize in that day's 4D draws!

over the weekend, rovers went to changi prison to conduct the adventure component of NYAA for the inmates (aged 16-21)
seriously a once in a lifetime experience man! i mean, how many people actually get to visit the prison? like right to the cells.....

it's a really high tech place, nothing like what the tv shows/movies portray.
oh and i realise how impossible it is to run out of prison!
there's like 3 security checks before we can actually get to the cells.

honestly, the inmates are way more well behaved than i thought they would be, or perhaps it was because they were being watched? ;)

some of the inmates, armed w their inquisitiveness, were really into the stuff that we were teaching. They kinda reminded me of the china kids i taught during OCIP....
i guess when you dont have much, you'll learn to treasure every single opportunity.
it's rather heartening to see such sights, it's like there's still some hope for them?

haha kidding, i do put in effort ok, i always give them extra time, and my students do improve!
so employ me!

but to be honest, i feel really tired of teaching tuition, i really dont like to teach.
i guess the only driving source is $$$ LOL
but that doesnt mean i wont be a responsible tutor, i feel just as bad to not be able to help the student after taking their parents' money.
